FAQ
IS IT DIFFICULT TO GET MARRIED IN VENICE?
Not with our help. Organizing a wedding abroad can be tricky, so we will take care of you from the beginning, first by dealing with all the paperwork involved in getting married in Italy, then by selecting the best providers for all the services you will need. Only our thorough knowledge of Venice and its suppliers will ensure that you will get what you want at a fair price.
WHY GET MARRIED WITH THE VENICE WEDDING PLANNER?
Because we are a small company that, unlike big tour operators and travel agencies, specializes only in weddings. This means that we do not offer only packages, but are able to also offer a bespoke service with a wide range of ceremony options, so that no two weddings will be the same. Moreover, we are based in Venice and this makes it easier for us to check the quality of each service personally.
HOW DO WE WORK WITH YOU FROM OUR COUNTRY?
Mainly by e-mail or fax. Though we can certainly talk by telephone (landline) or Skype, we think that all details and decisions are better done in writing. Best of all would be to meet personally to outline the wedding you have in mind, but even if you can't, don't worry! We will coordinate effectively and quickly by e-mail and telephone/Skype alone.
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD WE BOOK OUR WEDDING?
One year is a reasonable advance for a big wedding, for a small civil ceremony just three or four months are fine. Remember though that weekends are booked well over a year in advance, so it is easier to find space during the rest of the week. The busiest periods are May, June and September so you might consider getting married at an unusual time of the year, then you are sure to find the most convenient rates for hotels and flights!
CAN WE HAVE OUR OWN CHOICE OF VOWS?
In a civil ceremony, yes. Although the official wedding formula required by the Italian law has to be prononunced, you can then add your own vows, usually when you exchange rings. You can also add a personal touch to the ceremony having friends or family reading something of your choice, or making short speeches. The only requirement is that the ceremony does not last more than 25/30 minutes.
DO WE HAVE TO HAVE A BRIDESMAID AND A BEST MAN?
No, but you must provide two persons to be present at your marriage as witnesses, at least 18 years of age.
HOW DO I GET MY WEDDING DRESS THERE SAFELY?
If you are flying first-class, cabins have large "coat closets" that can be used for bridal gown storage. If not, you can either ask us to organize our stylist to steam iron it a day or two before the ceremony, or you can simply fill up your hotel bathroom with steam and hang your gown there for a few hours.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN VENICE. SHOULD I GET MARRIED THERE ANYWAY?
Yes, definitely. But even if you have been there already, it is very important that you tell us from the start how familiar you are with the city. Venice is a very different place from any other place you've visited, and has many unique aspects that is better to know in advance, like for example, portions of the city can be slightly flooded during seasonal high tides. Venice is a fully pedestrian city and transport is done by boat. If you have never been there, we will provide valuable information about logistics, and how things work in general.
